YOUNG GOODMAN BROWN QUESTIONS

1. What do you think Hawthorne's purpose was for writing this story?
That he will do anything to keep is wife faith to say alive and go to heaven.
2. Hawthorne states that Brown's wife is "aptly named" Faith. After reading the story, do you agree? Does Faith's name fit her personality? Does Brown have true faith in her?
Well I agree because he thinks that anything he does is possible for his wife to be good and loving with good health. I think that this name is good for her because it fits what he thinks about her, even though that he kind of lost a little connection with her.
3. What do you think the pink ribbons signify?
There is something different in her compared to all the other people.
4. Was everything Brown witnessed real, a figment of his imagination; something conjured by evil, or a dream?
Support your answer with passages from the text.
I think that it was a dream it didn’t seem like that could happen to me even though it is a story. For example: “Faith, with the pink ribbons, gazing anxiously forth, and bursting into such joy at sight of him that she skipped along the street and almost kissed her husband before the whole village.” That’s when I figured that he just dreamed because she was okay.
5. Who do you think the old man really is? What textual clues tell you this?
I though the old man was just his consciences talking to him, also trying to help him out.
6. What does the staff represent? Do you think the staff leads Brown onward or is the primary motivator Brown's own conscience/mind?
I think that the staff represented his mind because of wanting to believe everything he was thinking and in the end not being true.
7. If Brown had not ventured into the forest, how would his life be different? If he'd stayed home, would Brown still have Faith? Would he still trust his wife and his fellow townspeople?
I think that by going in to the forest can caused a different thing between his wife and him because things could happen when they are not together. I also think that it would be better if they stayed together they would be together and happy in the end. I think that he would trust her even more if they were together because they can watch over each other and have each other to solve anything they have.

story :Young Goodman Brown

Observations
~ Young Goodman Brown and his wife Faith treat each other like if they are going to die the next day. They make the best of their time together.
~ They make a lot of descriptions about each other that means that is direct. That’s good because it tell us, what they are doing or describing something.
~ They worry about what is going to happen to each other they care what they do. In other words they watch over each other.

reflextion for arguement

Opinions
Today in class I learned that there are many people that don’t want to say want they think. People have freedom to do anything and people are able to say what they think. People should just be able to think what they want and not be told if they are right or wrong. But opinion that they have should have a reason for why they think that. People should say their opinion even if they think others wont think the same. If people want to prove something I think they should have a say in everything, they shouldn’t be scared for others to think different. Your own opinion is yours but we thought that you should think about it before u say it because people can take it wrong.
People that say their opinion shouldn’t be challenged to say what are their beliefs for it. It should be something that they believe in and they have a reason for it. I had a argument with a friend in class and I thought some thing and I had my reasons but my friend though something way different and she persuade me to change my mine for my statement. Today in class I heard someone say “don’t need to be big or strong to say your opinion you just need courage to make it true.” I thought that was some thing great so say that meant a lot for me to hear that its like if they want you to say what you think and they will not judge you for what you think. To me opinions shouldn’t matter to any one because its not what they want you to think it what the person wants to think and wants to believe in.

"Reflections on Week 1"

1) Nope I think this class will help me prepare for college. I have internet and a phone to be connected.
2) I was at cal poly upward bound and we learned by playing games and experimenting on other things. There were the students that were involved in upward bound. Well I know that it was working because we learned many things by doing the things we like to do. I helped us learn that we can have fun and learn at the same time.
3) I am most excited to learn in a different way. I am looking forward on improving my vocabulary and writing. This class will help me in the future because it will help me learn in different ways that I didn’t expect. It will also help me see what/ how it might be in college.

what i want to achieve

There is some goal that I have for this class and that is learning new ways to learn. I am also exspecting to get mare help on my English because I am still learning and I am trying my best to do so. I also want a good grade in this class. I expect to learn new things that I don't know and to see if I learn more with with this class with how we are going to learn. The thing that gets me nervous if talking in front of class because I am not good at that or talking in front people.
